As we celebrate Swedish culture throughout the month, we look to learn new words and create new traditions! Fika is a Swedish term meaning “to have coffee.” Residents enjoyed a fika celebration with pastries and cookies, as well as new friends to have conversations with!
Ready to be impressed? Resident Ted Sundquist set a new American record on May 2, 2019 on the Concept2 Indoor Rower in the heavyweight men 90 to 99 division, rowing 2 hours, 23 minutes, 44.9 seconds.
Ted has logged approximately 7.5 million meters since he started rowing on a machine, and entered data into the online logbook. He’s also rowed on water, in many types of craft, from lifeboats to sculls. He compares his performance with others around the globe based on age, sex, weight, and distance.

Mount Miguel recently featured a new artist in the on-campus gallery. Resident Mieke Kerkstra has worked in many mediums, but textile is her passion. From lace making to weaving, a wide assortment of her work was on display. She even makes her own dish towels by hand, one stitch at a time.
